IPods Have Come Down In Price

When you want to hear your MP3 music, and you want to do it without paying an arm and a leg, then buy one of the cheap apple iPods. You might think of iPods as always having to be expensive, because, years-ago, all of them were. There was no way, years ago, that you could pay less than $250 for an iPod; but since then times have changed.

The Nano basically started the trend towards cheap apple iPods. The sad thing is, iPods tend to not last too long. People drop them on the floor, and you'll then have to run down to the store and buy another one. Then, it lasts a couple more months, it drops out of your pocket and the LCD display cracks. You run out again and buy another new iPod at the same corner store, when you could have purchased it for far less by availing yourself of the great deals you can find on the internet.

However, there are still those iPod versions with all the incredible features.  Even though there are cheap versions of the iPod, there are still the ones that can go for over $250. Let's say that you want to purchase an iPod touch, this time, and pay the bigger bucks. It's not one of those really cheap apple iPods I was talking about, and you're basically paying for the flash drive that's built into it. You can tell that, because the Apple iPod Touch 8 GB version is around $185 (on-line) wherease the iPod touch 3rd Generation 32 GB is about $270 (list price being $299).  Therefore, it's the storage size that costs so much.

If you're storing MP3 files only, on your iPod, then you could literally put thousands of songs on a 32GB unit. Storage of that size is basically good enough for you to view videos. Videos have to be saved out in particular formats if you wish to view them on an iPod. Although they allowed huge AVI files to be played, AVI had problems. First, they can be made using many different kinds of codec. A codec is what makes the AVI run on the computer. If the codec that was used to create the AVI isn't compatible with the iPod, then it just won't play. Also, AVI files are just way too big because there isn't much compression on those kinds of files.

So, save them out as MP4 format. The iPods like that format, but the videos must be properly sized. Since older iPods have a smaller potential acceptable size than the later units, make sure that the size you choose is proper for the unit that you have. They all tend to accept 320 x 240 videos, but sometimes earlier models don't accept sizes that big, and later models can accept ones that are bigger than that.

So, when it comes to cheap apple iPods, the iPod Touch isn't going to rank in there with the Nano, unless you choose to purchase one of the refurbished units that is on Apple's website. If you go to their Apple Store, and go to the refurbished section, you'll find really good deals, such as an iPod Nano 16GB Silver (previous generation, any color you like) for as little as $120; and a refurbished iPod Touch goes for $250.

Apple iPod Touch 8GB Review

By Peter Walcott
Until the September 2010 release of the iPhone 4, this was probably the only other Apple product in the (i) range that gave Steve Jobs a lot of headache. He released it intending for it to be a practice run for a touch screen iPhone, but since he had promised an iPod, and Apple is Apple, the market was not going to let him get away with it.
